One of the best things about owning an SUV is the sheer amount of cargo you can fit behind the passenger compartment, but getting to that cargo area with arm loads of groceries or luggage hasn't always been easy. While putting things down wasn't exactly a tough task, sometimes wet, snowy, or dirty surfaces made than undesirable. Lake Charles Toyota is thrilled to offer several Toyota RAV4 models with a foot activated liftgate that makes cargo loading a breeze, and this quick rundown will let you know just how it works.
You'll start by going through the panes on your instrument cluster until you reach the settings panel. From there scroll down to Vehicle Settings, and scroll until you select PBD, where you'll ensure that the kick sensor is turned on.
Simply have the Smart Key with you as you approach the rear of your Toyota RAV4. Once you're at the rear of the vehicle, kick your foot beneath the rear bumper to activate the motion sensor. At this point the system will emit a beep and begin automatically opening the liftgate for you. It is important to note that you do not need to hold your foot beneath the vehicle, nor do you actually need to contact the vehicle with your foot. Simply kick your foot underneath the rear bumper quickly and the system will automatically open the rear hatch. It works in reverse as well, automatically closing the liftgate with a second kick.
