What is Toyota Safety Sense?

Before we dive into the many features of Toyota Safety Sense, first let’s talk about what exactly it is. Toyota Safety Sense is a package of safety features that come standard with most new Toyota vehicles.

This means you’re getting top-quality safety features that have made Toyota vehicles top safety picks according to IIHS for 2022. These features were built from the ground up to provide you with an extra level of comfort.

There are 7 main features included with Toyota Safety Sense. Each of these features is designed to protect you and those around you as you’re driving.

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection

This is designed to help you detect a pedestrian or vehicle on the road ahead of you. As you’re driving, if a vehicle or pedestrian gets within a certain range of your vehicle’s sensor, you’ll first get an audio/visual warning.

This alerts you to what’s coming up. If you don’t react in time, then the system will trigger the emergency brake to stop you from a potential collision.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

This is the next level of cruise control. While you’re able to maintain a certain speed like any normal cruise control, this system will detect vehicles in front of you and adjust your speed so it can maintain a certain amount of distance.

This feature is a great way to use cruise control without having to switch out of it constantly in changing traffic situations.

Lane Departure Alert

We’re all used to trying to stay in our lane when we’re driving. While this can be easy, in some cases, it’s not as easy as it seems. Maybe it’s a little too dark out for you to read the lines on the road.

Or maybe you’re more tired than you realize, and you start to veer into another lane. Whatever the case may be, this system is designed to give you an alert whenever you start to go into another lane.

Automatic High Beams

High beams are great when driving down an especially dark road, but remembering to turn them on and off at the right times is something that every driver has done at least once.

This feature is designed so that your high beams turn on while driving on a dark road at more than 21 mph. To make things easier on other drivers, there is a sensor built in to detect incoming headlights or taillights.

This will automatically toggle between your high and low beams to provide the proper amount of clarity for the situation.

Lane Tracing Assist

Much like the previously mentioned Lane Departure Alert, this is a system designed to help you stay in your lane. This system actually detects the lines in the road and will adjust your position to keep you centered.

If you start to veer into another lane, it will steer you back into the correct lane and center you.

Road Sign Assist

Using an intelligent camera, this feature will detect any road sign and alert you to what it says.

It detects speed limit signs, stop signs, yield signs, and even Do Not Enter signs, making it easier for you to keep track of what is allowed in an area.

Proactive Driving Assist

This last system uses cameras and radar to help assist in driving. This means that it will initiate brakes to help you slow down, and it will steer you if you start to leave your lane. It’s a cluster of a bunch of little things that will assist you to become a better driver.
